Leveraging the open source code, I would like to install an instance of DMPTool2 locally. Has anyone performed a similar install, and is any guidance available?

I too would be very interested in an installation guide for a local installation.

Note: there isn't a great reason for any US college or university to want to run DMPTool themselves. An example of when organizations might want to install and run locally is people outside of the US to take the code and modify the authentication piece for their identity management federation.

Our functional requirements document is here. We don't have any documentation on technical requirements or installation. Basically, you'll need three pieces:

  1. DMPTool code, written in Ruby on Rails
  2. MySql database
  3. Authentication

The MySql database contains information on users and their data management plans as well as all the information on data management requirements that they use to create plans. For authentication, we use Shibboleth for institutions that members of the InCommon Federation; for everyone else we have a local LDAP server that they can use to create and manage DMPTool accounts.

There are any number of good reasons for US federal agencies and large companies to employ a DMP tracker like DMPTool to manage DMPs for internal data projects, many of whom can not store sensitive information in an external tool.
